Conditional Sentence

Conditional Sentence atau kalimat pengandaian adalah kalimat yang digunakan untuk menyatakan sesuatu yang mungkin terjadi atau mungkin tidak terjadi seperti yang diharapkan pada waktu masa lalu, sekarang, ,maupun masa akan datang.

Conditional sentence terdiri dari dua klausa, yaitu:

Main Clause (Induk Kalimat) dan IF Clause.

Letak main clause bisa di depan maupun di belakang IF Clause. Perbedaan letak ini tidak mempengaruhi arti.

Dibawah ini adalah beberapa tipe conditional sentence :

§             Type I: Future Conditional

§             Type II: Present Conditional

§             Type III: Past Conditional

Type I: Future Conditional

Kalimat ini mengungkapkan kejadian yang diharapkan akan terjadi di masa yang akan datang dan memiliki kemungkinan untuk terjadi. Dalam tipe ini kalimatnya menggunakan kata kerja bentuk pertama setelah subjek dan IF pada kalimat pertama, sedangkan pada kalimat keduanya terdapat subjek, kata bantu “will” dan kata kerja pertama.

Pola kalimat:

If + S + Verb (present), S + will + Verb1

Contoh:

1. If I have enough time, I will visit him.

(mean: I may have enough time, I may visit him)

2. We will wait if you want to join us.

(mean: Perhaps, we wait, you probably want to join us)

3. If you study hard, you will pass the final exam.

(mean: Perhaps, you study hard, you may pass the final exam)

4. If he wins the competition, they will give him a gold medal.

(mean: Perhaps, he win the competition, they may give him gold medal)

5. If I have work with a salary of 3million, I will buy a house

(fact: it is possible, if I’am 3million)

Type II: Present Conditional

Kalimat ini menyatakan peristiwa yang diharapkan terjadi sekarang tetapi  tidak terjadi.Dalam tipe ini pada kalimat pertama menggunakan kata kerja bentuk kedua setelah subjek dan IF, tetapi jika kita tidak menggunakan kata kerja kedua setelah subjek maka harus menggunakan kata bantu ‘were” , sedangkan pada kalimat kedua terdapat subjek, kata bantu “would” dan menggunakan kata kerja bentuk pertama.

Pola kalimat:

If + S + Verb 2 / were,     S + would + Verb1

Contoh:

1. If she visited me, I would give him money.

(mean: She doesn’t visit me, so I don’t give her money.)

2. If I had enough time, I would go swimming.

(mean: I don’t have enough time, so I don’t go swimming.)

3. If you were a flower, I would be a bee.

(mean: You are not a flower, I am not a bee.)

4. If Agnes Monica were my girlfriend, I would be the happiest boy in the world.

(mean: Agnes Monica is not my girlfriend, so I am not the happiest boy in the world)

5. If I have don’t slept, I will oversleep college

(fact: it is possible, I have don’t sleep)

6. If ian came to home me, I would play futsal.

(fact: he don’t come to my home, and I’m break)

7. If he beat me, I would repay

(fact: he didn’t beat me)

8. If she wanted to met, I would come to home she

(fact: she doesn’t to meet)

Type III: Past Conditional

Kalimat ini menyatakan peristiwa yang diharapkan terjadi di waktu lampau, tetapi tidak terjadi. Dalam tipe ini menggunakan kata bantu ‘had’ dan kata kerja bentuk ketiga setelah subjek dan IF pada kalimat pertama, sedangkan pada kalimat keduanya menggunakan kata bantu “would have” dan kata kerja bentuk ketiga setelah subjek.

Pola kalimat:

If + S + had + Verb 3, S + would have + Verb 3

Contoh:

1. If she had studied hard, she would have passed the final exam.

(mean: She didn’t study hard, so she didn’t pass the final exam.)

2. If the team had played well, it would have won the competition.

(mean: The didn’t play well, so the team didn’t win the competition)

3. If you had come to my house, you would have met me.

(mean: You didn’t come to my house, so you didn’t meet me.)

4. If my mother had chided, I would have become player football

(fact: my mother doesn’t approve and I now lecture)

5. If my brother had not hurt, he would have become pelita jaya fc player

(fact: my brother was injured and didn’t become a football player)

6. if I had had money, I would have bought shoes adidas predator

(fact: I don’t have money and I not buying)
